A Very Exciting Announcement: Our Book is Available to Pre-Order!

At long last, I'm excited to share a sneak peek of the cover and a link to order

I’m sitting at my desk, staring at a blank screen. My task is simple enough: write a Substack post to announce that The Family Home — the book that has been at the centre of our lives for the past 18 months — is finally available to pre-order. And yet… I’ve been staring at this screen for over an hour, and the words just won’t come.

I keep thinking, You’ve written an entire book! Surely you can write a little post about it! But somehow, trying to sum up this big, beautiful project in a few paragraphs feels impossible.

Still, I’ll give it a go…

At its heart, The Family Home feels like two things to me. First, it’s an extension of our 20-year parenting journey — a heartfelt reflection on everything we’ve learned about creating a happy, cosy home for our family. And second, it’s a generous bundle of inspiration, with stunning photography of more than 24 unique family homes, each one filled with warmth, creativity and thoughtful ideas.

Michael and I poured so much of ourselves into this book. We’ve shared personal stories and anecdotes, lessons learned, favourite rituals, helpful habits and the little tips and tricks that have helped us along the way. We’ve explored how the way we set up our homes can encourage connection, foster independence in our children, invite more play and imagination, and make space for the rhythms and rituals that make family life meaningful.

We’ve also tackled the practical stuff (because everyone always wants to know!). We have shared how to get (and stay!) organised, how to manage the endless stream of shoes, kids’ artwork and miscellaneous knick-knacks that somehow enter the home in pockets and rucksacks, and we’ve written a chapter on how we can tread more lightly on our planet by making considered choices at home.

Writing this book together has been an absolute joy. It’s been a chance to reflect on all the homes we’ve lived in and the meaningful moments that have shaped our family life— from our tiny one-bedroom flat in Notting Hill where we welcomed our first baby, to the old Georgian house beside Hampstead Heath we rented with three young kids, a campervan we called home for two months in New Zealand, and of course to our current weatherboard home in the Byron Bay hinterland.

Photographing this book was equally inspiring. Together with the talented Amelia Rushforth, I visited 24 family homes from Los Angeles to London to Byron Bay — all places that hold a special spot in our hearts. We had the privilege of witnessing how different families have shaped their homes with intention and creativity, incorporating clever storage solutions, playful ways of displaying children’s artwork, thoughtful collections, bold uses of colour, and sweet personal touches in children's rooms. Every home offered something unique, and with each visit, I left feeling more inspired than the last. I’m so grateful to the families who welcomed us in, and I’m thrilled to be able to share their homes with you in this book.

Writing a book is a loooong journey. After spending the past five years creating eBooks and online courses — where publishing happens with the click of a button — I could hardly believe the timeline we were given at the start of this process. September 2025 felt like forever away! And yet, somehow, here we are… in the final countdown to publication. It feels both surreal and long overdue all at once.
