Annie Messing Shares 5 Things She's Loving Right Now
Comfy pants, a family-favourite dinner recipe, a YA novel and K-Dramas...
I've known Annie for ten years now, since she launched her cute online children's shop, Brimful. What started as a work relationship turned into a friendship, and we've been sending texts and messages to each other ever since! I can always count on Annie to send me an article she knows I'd enjoy, a podcast episode for one of my courses, or a great book recommendation. She also gives the most thoughtful gifts, asks heartfelt questions, and offers helpful advice whenever I need it.
Annie is a mother of four. She's an American (with ties to the Pacific Northwest like me!), and she and her family currently live in a small farm town in Germany. I was so happy she agreed to share five favourite things she's loving right now...
1. A friend recommended these pants to me a few years - and now I have three pairs. I don’t really love the look of athleisure, but these pants go with everything and I just can’t stop wearing them! Sheepishly obsessed.
2. At the start of the pandemic, I read the YA novel, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. It was a total departure from what I usually read, but so well-written and endearing that I went on to read several more of the author’s books. Rowell’s newest book, a collection of her short stories is funny, relatable, and just right for half an hour of reading before bedtime.
3. This is a recipe I’ve been making for almost 20 years and it continues to be a family favorite. A generous slice of this pie is filling, meat-free, and my kids are always thrilled when they see what’s for dinner. I cheat a little and use a premade gluten-free crust, just to save time.
4. Whenever I can, I go for a evening dusk walk around our little German farming town. The setting sun and all its glorious colors soothes away any anxiety or stress I was carrying around that day. Also, I love seeing the fields change throughout the seasons - from barren to sprouted to beautifully ripe.
5. I just started watching K-dramas a few months ago, but oh my goodness - they are so entertaining. I’m currently a few episodes from finishing What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?. There’s a certain goodness and “je ne sais quoi” to this genre that keeps me wanting more.
