Sara Covey Shares 5 Things She's Loving Right Now
A cute children's book, a simple pasta recipe, a kick of endorphins and chickens!
Sara Covey and her family came to Australia last year and rented our beach house on Airbnb. It wasn’t until she shared some photos of her visit that I was like - wait! who is this super cute mum?!!! I’ve been secretly (not so secretly, actually) girl crushing on her ever since.
Sara is a mum of two young boys. She and her family are big travellers, and she documents her travels with the most beautiful film photography. Her photos always have vibrant pops of colour, and she manages to capture the joys and juggle of motherhood so well. (Sara is the reason I’ve gotten into film photography. I bought the same camera she has simply because she recommended it, and I’m contemplating taking her online photography course to learn all her tips!)
Sara and her family recently moved from Chicago to Utah, where they’ve bought their first home and are currently in the process of renovating. I love following her on Instagram and Substack and know you will too.
Below, she shares 5 things she’s loving right now…
1. Running. This has been my favorite thing to do for myself lately: Putting on a banger playlist and feeling the crisp canyon air against my face. We recently moved right by the mountains and I feel like a child staring at the river rushing by, the mountains towering overhead, and the sunlight flickering through the trees when I run. It feels like a gratitude practice mixed with the best kick of endorphins.
2. Chickens. This will be my first season raising my own chickens and I'm really excited about it!
3. The children's book Hot Dog. We just found this one at our library and I adore it! The writing and the illustrations are so sweet.
4. Super8 Film. I'm obsessed with documenting our family life/my boys as they grow up. Historically I've documented via physical journals and 35mm film (which I still love), but lately I've been shaking things up with Super8 film and it's brought me so much joy! I love the nostalgic, imperfect aspect of these films. (Here, here and here are a few.)
5. Julius Roberts's deep green pasta. My 4y/o son and I have been making this on repeat these past few weeks. We'll usually add some steamed asparagus in since it's in season right now and it's absolutely delightful.
