I was so excited to chat with my friend, Nadia Narain. She is one of London’s most respected and sought-after yoga teachers with more than three decades of experience. She is known for her grounded, no-nonsense approach to yoga that blends mindfulness, movement, and emotional wellbeing. She’s also the co-author of several bestselling books on self-care and personal growth, written with her sister, Katia.
Nadia’s work has touched the lives of thousands, including working with hundreds of pregnant women to help them achieve a positive birth experience. Nadia was my introduction to yoga back in 2012. I walked into her pregnancy yoga class in Primrose Hill at 32 weeks pregnant with Marlow and have been doing yoga ever since (we even travelled around the world with one of her yoga DVDs in our laptop!). I credit Nadia for the beautiful birth experience we had following those pregnancy yoga classes — I very clearly remember having her words in my head as I laboured in the darkness on that rainy night (relax your mouth, trust your body).
In this chat, we discuss everything from growing older and accepting our changing bodies to what menopause symptoms are the most annoying (dry vagina! brain fog!). She shares about finding love later in life and surrendering to change, and she also shares how we can squeeze in a morning grounding exercise even when life is busy.
But one of the biggest take-aways I had after this conversation was that there is so much learning, un-learning and growing that happens in motherhood that we sometimes don’t even realise. Nadia has never had children, and I love how she shares lots of the lessons she’s had to teach herself because she didn’t have children to do the teaching. She offered a different perspective on motherhood that I hadn’t thought about previously.
Anyway, I hope you’ll enjoy this conversation and find it as insightful as I did. Please share your comments below.
